At Dunstall Hill Primary school, we believe computing is a vital part of modern-day life and therefore we aim to equip our children with the knowledge and skills they will need in order to access the rapidly changing technological world.
Our intent is that, by the time they leave our school, students have acquired the knowledge, skills and understanding of the use of digital technology in order to use it safely, effectively and imaginatively.
We do this through the implementation of the Teach Computing Curriculum which has been developed by subject experts to support all pupils. Each lesson is sequenced so that it builds on the learning from the previous lesson, and where appropriate, activities are scaffolded so that all pupils can succeed and thrive. Scaffolded activities provide pupils with extra resources, such as visual prompts, to reach the same learning goals as the rest of the class.
Our curriculum uses the National Centre for Computing Education’s computing taxonomy to ensure comprehensive coverage of the subject. This has been developed through a thorough review of the computing programme of study.
Exploratory tasks foster a deeper understanding of a concept, encouraging pupils to apply their learning in different contexts and make connections with other learning experiences. As well as scaffolded activities, embedded within the lessons are a range of teaching strategies, which support making computing topics more accessible.
Our curriculum is underpinned by the latest computing research, to demonstrate effective teaching strategies throughout. Every aspect of the Teach Computing Curriculum is reviewed each year and changes are made as necessary.

Early Years links to Computing
Our learning opportunities for computing in EYFS are interweaved throughout our provision.
Children will begin to explore simple toys and mechanisms including how to opertate them. They will develop the basic skills to make use of devices such as turning them on and operating digital equipment such as iPads.
Alongside this, they will also investigate how techniligy is used in the home such as washing and cleaning, retrieving information from devicess and using devices to create content such as videoing and photography.
