PHYSICAL EDUCATION

At Dunstall Hill Primary School, we believe that being physically active is an important part of a healthy, active lifestyle and is an important part of a child’s development, right from an early age.

Our physical education (PE) curriculum develops the children’s knowledge, skills and understanding, so that they can perform with increasing competence and confidence in a range of physical activities.

These activities include a range of games, gymnastics, dance, swimming and water safety, athletics and outdoor and adventurous activities.

Physical education promotes an understanding in children of their bodies in action. It involves thinking, selecting and applying skills and promotes positive attitudes towards a healthy lifestyle. Thus, enabling children to make informed choices about physical activity throughout their lives.

Early Years links to PE

At Dunstall Hill, iEarly Years, we ensure that our lessons and provision are ENGAGING, ACTIVE and ENJOYABLE. We do this by ensuring that there are a range of activities throughout our provision that are varied and encourage the children to develop their Core strength and co-ordination, Gross motor skills and Fine motor skills.

We also regularly facilitate our children’s learning in the outdoor environment so that we can provide as many varied and engaging opportunities for their physical development as possible.
